Timing Belt Service and Necessary Parts
I just spent an hour researching what parts are needed for this job. The most helpful information came from these two (bottom of post). My mechanic told me there are three tensioners associated with the timing belt. I only see two on this list. I also want to do the serpentine belt at the same time, do I need to do any tensioners associated with that? I also thought I read somewhere that you need two crank seals and two cam seals (is this true?).
My mechanic is hooking me up with the labor because he's my girlfriend's uncle. His shop is only going to charge $200 to do it all, but the parts prices from the local (Houston) Lexus dealer are awful. Almost $300 for a water pump!! At any rate, I'm going to order it from that dealer in Phoenix or from another dealer in Portland that was recommended for hooking up parts prices. I need an exact list and quantity of the parts I DEFINATELY should buy and the parts I should CONSIDER buying. Please list all parts including fluids, o-rings, etc. I want to make sure I drop the car off with EVERY necessary part. My car is a 95 with 100K on it. I apprecaite it guys. Also, I want to do the plugs, cap, rotor, and plug wires. Do I need anything other then those 4 pieces for this job?
Thanks a lot guys!!

I can't stress how much I thank you for your time. I just keep getting mixed answers regarding this topic, and I don't trust the Lexus dealer's part's guy to tell me everything I need.
Club Lexus rules, thanks again.

dont forget to get a price quote from
BrianV,
Many people on the forum swear by Steve Ganz at Carson Toyota. Super nice guy and almost always has lowest prices on genuine Toyota/Lexus parts. PM him at SupraTRD or Phone: (310) 522-2381 | Website: www.l-tunedparts.com | Email: gonzo4u@earthlink.net

The tensioner and idle pulley may not be needed. I just go my timing belt replace last week and requested those two and the dealership told me I was wasting my money. He said they were clean as a whistle. But the cam and crank seals were leaking a tad.
Also the upper and lower radiator hoses is a waste. I was told tThose last forever. One mechanic had been servicing Lexi for 9 years and has never seen one that needed replacing.
So unless you got money to throw away you may save a few bucks on those parts and put them into something else.
But then again, you won't know about the pullies until you get it open. Good Luck, let me know if you car leaks water for a few days afterwards. Mine did but it doesn't do it know. Have no idea what that was about. I thought they pinched air cond. line somewhere because it was clear water like of the air comp. But I wasn't running the air

Thanks, not many people mention the tensioners. Is it easy for a mechanic to inspect the condition of a tensioner?
Seals are a must (is it one or two of each seals?)
waterpump
timing belt
optional
tensioners depending on condition
That was what I sort of felt before hand. I probably won't own the car over 150K, as in the next year or so I will probably upgrade to a 98+. Anyways, I'm sold on the LS, in my mind it's how all cars SHOULD be built.

So what does the consensus think about the tensioners?
