Default Is my crankshaft pulley correctly installed?

I think I might have it incorrectly installed inside-out.

It looks like your pulley has separated into 2 pieces. I hope your not driving the car like that either. The belt is completely chewed up a riding on the separated part of the pulley. It's supposed to be riding on the grooves that are under the numbers. I have no ideal how that part of the pulley could separate and get pushed back. Or you put it on backwards would be my guess.

Another thing is you can tell the top part of the pulley has pushed back through the timing cover. This is the closest thing I can find that seems like what might have happened.

I don't know what caused this but I had similar results.

According to the mechanic, the belt broke and melted into the pulley and jammed it. The outer wheel slid off and found somewhere else to play.

Lesson learnt was that all parts of last belt are to be cleaned off.

Did you have replace the pulley? I'm thinking you did but wanted to clarify for the OP.

yep the pulley has separated! it is lined with rubber to isolate vibrations against the pulley (harmonic balancer). when the rubber deteriorates, it cracks first then separates as you see now.

i've only seen this on my hondas with high mileage. i have never seen this happen on the 1UZ! the crank pulley will need to be replaced! do NOT try to fix it.

you can limp it home by temporarily jb welding the halves together, which is something i did in the past.

Yes you're right - it was replaced - through a junkyard as the dealer quote was $700.

Use the Starter to bump the infamous 22mm crankshaft bolt out.
