Default Need new catalytic converters

97 LS400, 190,000 miles. Previous owner punched out the catalytic converters(yes he admitted he did this!) and added a high flow exhaust which makes the vehicle sound like a cheap pickup. Anyway the CEL is on and codes indicate the converters are the problem(verified by a couple different sources).

First step for me is to have new catalytic converters installed. Local shop wants $600 for this, but I'm thinking I can buy the converters on ebay or somewhere for a lot less and pay a shadetree mechanic to install them. Looking on ebay, I see I can purchase two new ones for $200 delivered.

My question is:

Can I trust that these catalytic converters will bolt right on? Last thing I want to do is buy converters that don't fit!!! Any advice on where I should buy these and how much I will need to spend?

I have a 97 as well. Have you tried looking around at some other websites?

I and others on this forum would suggest rockauto.

I replaced the cat on my old 87' Cressida with one of the direct fit ones from Rockauto. It literally WAS an exact fit, and judging from the readings on my emissions tests, it seems like it was working pretty well!
