Help - AC questions
My AC would only cool for about a week then I would have to recharge it. I added dye and used the glasses but could not see a leak so I took it to a mechanic. They said the shrader valve was leaking. They said they evacuated the system and refilled it.
Three days later, it is blowing warm again. I was going to add a can but when I removed the cap I could hear a leak. I tried poking on the valve to see if it would stop and a bunch of bright yellow dye came spilling out. This was a LOT more than when I added some earlier.
Shouldn't they have evacuated the system and if so why was there still dye in there?
Will the dye keep it from cooling as well? When I picked it up, it was only blowing 50 degrees but I thought, I'll give it another day since it's pretty hot. The next morning wasn't any better and now it's blowing 80 degrees.
The work order says charged system, added dye.
Checked for leaks
Replaced valve
Recharged system
Thanks

Taken for a ride
Sounds like you have been. Any leak that you can hear must be huge; you can easily find it with a little soapy water and a small paint brush. However, you may have lost all the refrigerant, so you will have to put a can of it in to pressurize the system first, then do a leak test. If you find a leak at any of the ports, the valve must be replaced, then retested. Make them do it right. The dye doesn't hurt anything.

well they found that the shrader valve was leaking so they should have fixed that leak first before pressurizing again. on the work order it does show they replaced the valve so bring the car back and it should be under their workmanship warranty, if they aren't some crappy mech!
