Default My New Toy Car! Did I get a good Deal?

New to the Scene
1998 LS 400 with 95k miles
Black/Tan
Got the car for $5000! It needs its 100k maintenance, and the Valve cover gasket, rack and pin have leaks. I can get everything done and running like new for about $1200 (excluding RacknPin)
Check it out and let me know what y'all think.

solid buy for that mileage and seemingly good condition.
Welcome to ClubLexus. I've moved this to the main LS400 forum

That driver's seat is a little rough... but not to bad for Nevada... great deal and great find.
Enjoy that ride...

Good buy, It looks like the seat belt is dead. I keep debating about spending the $170 for a new one.

for some reason 98-00 models seem to twist and hang at the top, just unkink it and it will retract ok, mine do..
AND, looks like a fair price for the car with the low mileage, I just like the later 98's with the wood grained steering wheel and shift ****, BUT yours will have the old style tilt & telle that you can fix with a washer for pennys.. and my black 99 had 130k on it when it got its first belt/pump (Sewell) but it was used by a doctor and the mileage ran up in 2007 (8 years), now has 241k and I will change again at 250k (16 years)... I paid 4500$ in march of 2013 with 230k ...

Thanks eveybody for your feed back... Yeah I wanted the wood grain wheel and ****, just have to get the later along with HIDs or LEDs. Lol and I'm going to replace the gear or try that wash trick for the steering wheel.

I've been reading a lot, but if y'all have any personal experience with eBay lower ball joints and motor mounts shoot me a link/brand or I'll just go OEM.

Already have wheels and suspension on the way!

Word of advice just go with OEM on these 2 parts especially the motor mounts.

back in 2010 I put in new motor mounts, from ebay and they were and are no problem for me, so I dont understand the above warning.... my old oem mounts were destroyed::
they came out in pieces...... see below.

Seems that the parts that most forum members suggest MUST be OEM usually need to be. EBay and aftermarket parts seem to be more ymmv as opposed to OEM, where's it's almost a forgone conclusion that it'll be better in every way.

a little rough around the edges but what used car doesn't have it's flaws. it's a good buy considering i paid more for my 97, with more miles, still needing the same maintenance as you.

as for the mounts, anything newer than those destroyed mounts will be better, but OEM is best in my humble opinion. change the transmission mount while you're at it.

I agree with ALL of you, OEM IS best in every way.... final!!!!!!!!! . but, sometimes I use aftermarket items when it will not weaken the safety or comfort of the car longterm.. I am over 80, and probably the oldest active commenter on here, I retired 18 years ago on social security with a little nestegg and have to watch my coins, because I have no other income, realizing I will not be here forever, but believe the Lexus will still be running fine after I am gone...... so cut me a little slack ok? .. they both still look and run as good as ever: agreed??
