Joined the Forum today and look forward to exchanging knowledge of the LS 400. Currently own three Lexus vehicles - 1999 LS 400 (183k miles), 2000 LS 400 Platinum Edition (43k miles), 2003 RX300 AWD (84k miles). Have owned at least one Lexus for the past 20 years. I cannot imagine there having ever been a more perfect car than the LS400.

I bought my first Lexus last month. Have a long history with Euro cars and even a few USA made classics.
While not as powerful as some of the Euro cars it is hands down the best all around. If I get the reliability that others claim then I'm a Lexus guy from now on. I drove an ES300 a while back and it didn't convince me but this 96 LS400 has made a believer out of me. A rear drive V8 luxo-barge with Toyota reliability, not seeing a downside. I would agree that the LS400 is as close to perfect as I have ever driven. I'm a new guy here to but allow me to say Welcome!

I love the big convenient sedan but my kids are grown. When I bought this LS I was looking at small ragtops and Hondas, something with front drive so I could use it in the winter but when I "accidentally" drove the LS it instantly became mine. It will be useless for winter but I don't care, I love this car. I'll just pick up an older hail damaged Subaru for winters, no worries.

Previously owned ragtops
79 MG Midget, got me through nursing school with plenty of coaxing.
66 Meyers Manx, authenticated
74 XKE, blissful junk
74 Fiat 124 spyder
75 Eldorado. Fuel saver...haha
Currently have a ragtop Samurai heavily modified for offroad use.

Most of these were fun junk and a constant source of tinkering. I'm getting past the part of life where I need to be effing with stuff all the time. When I have time off and the weather is nice I want to put the key in and go without having to endure all the Safeway parking lot adjustments. I stopped riding HD and went to BMW bikes for the same reasons (silence, performance, reliability, build quality) and never looked back.

I don't care to spend over $10k on any car but when I find that SC ragtop/coupe out there with a few years under it's belt it will be sitting next to this LS. I still cant believe I'm openly admitting that I'm past BMW, MB and other euros after driving a LS. It's like a weight off my back, a relief. I'm no longer pushing rocks uphill and dealing with frequent expensive maintenance and excessive unscheduled repairs.
