Default Mystery steering shake on highway

The steering wheel shakes on the highway between the speed of 80 and 120 kph (like the shake you would get with those horribly balanced wheels). I've just gotten new tires and done the balance twice. I'm started to suspect that is the cause of the suspension. Whenever I go over bumps I can hear like a knocking sound from the front, and my steering wheel is just a little sloppy when the car is stationary. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this steering wheel shake? It's really really annoying since is the car is so comfortable and quiet I would really like to take it on a long road trip, but obviously I can't with the shaking!

Did the shaking problem exist before you had the new tyres fitted?

Maybe take it somewhere else to get is balanced. All techs are not the same even with something as simple as balancing. The new tires might be defective. How long have you had them on and did your old tires do the same thing?

Yes the old tires did the same thing, so I don't think it's the problem of the tires

I would suggest that YOU Jack the car up and take off both front wheels and compare the suspension/steering components in both sides to see if anything is bent or abnormal.

Could worm balljoint cause that kind of violent shaking? Because I know for a fact that they are in need of replacing

A worn ball joint shouldn't do that. my ls400's ball joints were to the point where they could be moved by hand and it still never shook at highway speeds. (maybe several bad suspension components?)

the only shaking i did have came from a bent rim which was balanced several times and STILL gave me vibration.

it could be a suspension problem but i know even the smallest miscalculation on the wheels can give the problems you're having.

especially since it's only at highway speeds.

I doubt balljoints would do that but I'm leaning more to what Turbo said if there is no obvious suspension/steering component damage.
