Question 1996 LS400 no heater fan and phone/radio issue?

Two days ago on my way to work the fan stopped working on the heat, it shows on the display but no matter where I set things it doesn't run, on the same trip the radio wasn't playing but later did come back and then went away again, also I would say for the last week I kept hearing a beep when I started the car and when I shut it off, today I realized that the noise was the phone going on then off? I wonder if the phone could be causing the other problems? radio possible but the heat seems like a stretch but I do see something with a input into the AC control from the phone? Anyone ever had similar issues.

Thanks, Tim

Looks like the AM1 line has some problem. It is the line from the 40A AM1 fuse to the ignition switch then to the ACC and the fan. You'd better to check the voltage drop at this line first.

Here we go again. Unplug all the cables from the phone ECU under the false floor on the right side of the trunk. Plug the two large (one male, one female) connectors on the "car side" of the harness together. Tuck up all the cables up and out of the way so that they don't get wet - if you want to "go all the way", look for a white plastic bracket attached to the bottom of the tool kit receptacle and plug the two large connectors "through" the bracket to hold them up and out of the way.

Yes, an incoming/outgoing phone call automatically lowered the HVAC fan speed and muted the radio to lower interior noise so that the driver could use the phone's hands-free feature. Your phone ECU is "shorting out".

You are at least the 100th person I've explained this to.

You might as well chuck the phone ECU into the trash - it has no value. If the handset is still in the upper console tray, it can be removed by prying the plastic insert out and removing the screws/nuts on the underneath side. Do not cut any wires! Remove the vent you see when the arm rest is raised to expose the connectors so you can unplug the handset.

Edit: Here is a photo of that plastic bracket and the two large phone connectors plugged together that attach to the tool box receptacle on my 2000 LS400. Yours should be similar.

I checked it out and there is some moisture and corrosion on some of the terminals, the corroded ones are not the main 2. I disconnected and plugged them together but the fan still didn't run, I disconnected them and now the fan seems to be normal. I dried out the area and when the weather is better I will open and let the whole trunk get rid of any moisture and clean out the pans better.
Thanks for the help, Tim

Some people have reported that they have left the two large connectors unplugged and everything still worked fine. I've always recommended plugging them together since that is how the car came from the factory. So ... leave them unplugged if everything works ... but tuck them up and maybe attach (zip tie?) them to the tool box receptacle to keep them from getting wet.

Does your radio now work and is the beeping sound gone?

The radio and heat both work as normal now and the phone makes no noise and has no power. Took a 2 hour drive and all seems normal.

Thanks, Tim
