Default LS400 with SC400 Motor Help

Okay heres the deal, I found a 92 LS400 with a sc400 motor already swapped into it, but the problem is that it needs a sc400 ecu and I wanted to know if I could just get the ecu and wire it up or do I have to do more work?

Welcome to Club Lexus!

the problem is, when you change the engine the way you are describing, it makes SC ECU not exactly right and LS ECU not exactly right either.

Club Lexus member Yamae could tell us which ECU would be closer to working correctly - keep in mind that the ECU controls many other things besides the engine such as transmission and A/C compressor and other ECU's inside the car.

Thanks. Oh okay gotcha. So what your saying is the features that LS has that the SC doesn't come with won't work but it'll be drivable. I'll contact Yamae prior to buying it.

It would have to be ridiculously priced (like $500) for me to even go there - just be patient and find an SC or an LS with all its original parts, one that has never been modified in any way, not lowered, no aftermarket stereo, alarm, HID lighting, etc. - most of these mods have not been done well and the car will be unreliable! Trust me, you do not want the headaches of a car with an engine from a different car, or even just a different year model!

this is not the last "great deal" out there, they pop up every day if you have your ear to the ground and are ready with cash in hand!

For $900 buy it as a parts car if the body and interior are in good shape then fine a low miler with a messed up body and swap parts as needed... Assuming you are mechanically inclined...

If motor is in a LS400, then you’ll need to find an LS ECU to run it. LS400, SC400, & GS400 are the same motor. Differences are in TRAC control, oil pan differences, and oil filter mounts, to Power steering reservoir locations, and maybe a little more difference, but the ultimately the same.. DO NOT get a SC400 ECU, those are 3 plugs pins (40,40,40) pins and LS are 4 plug pins (26,16,22,??) pins.. even thou the colors on the harness are similar do not cut and swap. More work for you. Avoid the 92 ECU’s and get the 93 or 94 ECU.

and plus, on the LS400, 1 of the 4 ECU plugs comes from body harness.. so ultimately you CANT use the SC400 any way... Good luck..

yes and no...NO being, its has been done with SC400 motor into LS400 CAR and also LS400 motor into and SC400 CAR. vise versa any way you put it...another differences is the exhaust manifolds. those are different, SC400 wraps a little closer to the block, and LS400 comes out further about 2.5 inches..and YES the ECU controls other things not just the motor. transmission being the main one. AC i think has it own ECU, i could be wrong. but it does have a few wires for AC communications, nothing major,

This is your best options to save $, learn a little about your ride, and have extra parts to work with and to sell to make your $ back.. those years are so cheap here in cali, i can pick one up for 2 LS400 for 1000.00 and at the end of the day, make profit and have a clean running LS400.
