Default Starting Issue Click and then dead

I have a 99 LS 400, I couple of weeks ago I was driving stopped for gas and when I got back in my car it wouldn't start. It did a clicking noise and then just drained and dead. After 15 minutes it started right up. I figured it might be the starter or battery. I went out of town, I am now back and the car has been running great. I went for gas again this morning and it wouldn't start again same symptoms as before. I got a jump and came home I am going to get a battery, but for some reason I am thinking it is something draining the battery. Please reply with knowledge of this issue same car.
Thanks.

First thing first. Have the battery and alternator tested.

Excellent advice!
Also check for intermittent cable connections, grounds, etc.
You may need to check during the time that the failure occurs.
If the voltage is good (above 10 V) at the large lug on the starter motor/solenoid housing while the key is in the START position, it would indicate a bad starter or solenoid contacts.

On my 98 it had a similar problem but turns out that it was a loose connection on the starter cable to the battery. Check that as well.

That certainly is key information. Sounds like the starter. I had the one on my 2000 LS400 replaced last year after experiencing similar intermittent starting problems. Have the amp draw of your starter checked.
