Default The Night before Christmas

Merry Christmas to all. Have a typical problem with the power steering leaking fluid on my 94 ls400. Its been dripping on the ground since I got the vehicle about a month ago. Adding fluid weekly. So on Sat the 21st I read that lucas power steering fluid stop leak help some people. I figure lets give it a try. instructions - removed about 8 ounces of old fluid and then added the stop leak. On the bottle it states it works immediately. Well it did stop leaking. wow. A repair in a can. On Christmas eve I needed to take a 60 mile trip with the family. Driving on the highway most of my time. When I needed to make my first turn the steering wheel was hard to turn and whining Sounded like there was air in the system. As soon I got a chance open the hood and look like fluid expanded an overflowing out with air bubbles in the reservoir. .. finish my trip . Before the kids woke upon on Christmas I empty the reservoir and added transmission fluid. drove a mile or 2. repeated the procedure. It seems to be steering much better now. Not totally normally. I will get more fluid and flush out the remainder of the fluid. What happen.......

My understanding is that the "stop leak" fluids work by expanding the rubber seals.
I would regard that as only a temporary "fix", to be properly repaired ASAP.

Also, I think that this applies to the '94 model, but I could be wrong:
The PS pump, etc. is directly over the alternator. Alternators do not play nice when soaked in PS fluid.
So, unless you need an educational experience replacing the alternator, fix the PS problem right away.
