just finished starter install
Just finished my '92 LS 400 new starter install - went with an Autozone rebuilt- Works fine. Car starts up good- but takes 2 or 3 tries. Seems to run a little sluggish on excelleration. All hoses are installed correctly, I think. The only thing that I cant seem to mark off is the vac port on the back of the engine. Cant seem to find a diagram that shows this item. Can anyone tell me if there is a vac hose that goes to this port.? Its just above the metal pipe that goes in to the back of the engine that is installed with 2 bolts. Thanks for your help! BTW: This project is just as frustrating as others have indicated on this site. I'm not sure if I would tackle it again. At least I was able to do this project for less than $ 125.00, but it sure took several partial days labor and a lot of patience. Another good result of this project was I discovered 3-4 broken wires during the process that I had to fix.

Back of the engine? Or back of the intake manifold? I think the pipe you mentioned is the EGR pipe. Did the vacuum port have a cap on it? I'm pretty sure that port is only used on CA models, which have some kind of air pump for emissions. I've never taken much notice to 90-92s to see if they have anything different that was removed on the 93-94.

The vac port is right above the EGR pipe. There was no cap on it. Do I need to put a cap on it? I don't remember removing any vac hose from there when I removed the other stuff. The car sure runs much better since I re-connected those wires. There are no odd vac hoses left over around there or, for that matter, there are none left over anywhere on the motor. I made sure that all were connected before I started the car.

it likely needs a hose connected to it, but it needs a cap at a minimum
if you want us to tell you for sure whether it is supposed to have a hose connected and where that vacuum hose goes to, you will need to post some clear photos - even smartphone photos are fine if it's a good phone and the lighting is bright
