My 1992 LS400 had about double fuel consumption on short trips. Following tips here on the forum, to exchange coolant sensor for injection. So it looks like it has become normal again, and the engine feels stronger.

for future reference, the other common cause of sudden fuel mileage decrease is engine running too cold, which is typically a failed thermostat
