Default Sticking caliper or bad caliper rods?

This week brought on a weird grinding noise on the pass side front wheel and it is definitely not the tire as it sounds very metallic in nature; at first I thought wheel bearing but when the brake pedal began to act weird I thought stuck caliper piston.

This evening I was able to jack the car up and spin the wheel but it barely wants to move.

I did a google and apparently the older LS had a problem with the rods rusting or whatever up; I wouldn't know for sure until tomorrow and wanted to take it somewhere by then because it can only get worse!

Anyone else ever have this issue? Imagine the sound of stopping a car that has no pad left; kinda that woosh woosh woosh grindy sound but my car does it when the brakes aren't engaged and you are cruising/accelerating. Yikes.

When was the last brake job? New pins for the calipers are fairley cheap.

Ended up taking the rim off and the pads are getting close to the sensor so that'll need doing soon; had the rotors resurfaced but if I do the brakes I'll get all new stuff. Tired of rusty, non OEM crap!

From what I can tell, the pins look okay but that inside, upper piston looks different than the rest. No residual fluid but when I took the slotted screwdriver to it there was dust gumming up on the metal (not a lot) but enough to think its time has come. Guess I'll make some calls tomorrow.

Don't know what year your car is, but take a look at the back side of the rotor too. I've seen a few LS's where the ball joints/ wheel bearings go out and the rotor rubs on the ball joint. I'm not saying this is your problem but take a look to make sure.

Just rebuild the caliper, take you minimal time, very cheap, and lexls has a tutorial for it iirc.

Yeah looks like I may have to rebuild this myself.

Anyone have a part number for this kit? No luck finding it.

My '96 has a weird intermittent metallic "banging" sound that happens with no pattern except that it is always at over 70 mph, my brakes look and work fine, I am hoping someone else has this and stumbles on to the solution!

centric makes one iirc. I'm a fan of R1Concepts.com, they should carry it on their site.
