Rear Axle Strut Rod Bushing
Hi all,
I have a '93 LS with 163K miles and have had the usual front and rear suspension noises when cold. I've been getting told that I need to have the rear axle carrier's replaced. The reason given is that the strut rod to the axle carrier is loose. On the right side, there is quite a bit of movement that you can achieve with just pressure from your fingers. My dealer said that this is a common problem and they will only sell the carrier as a unit, there isn't a bushing set that you can replace. I asked if he knew of any aftermarket parts and he said that he thought that there was but didn't know where to tell me to look.
If there is a bushing set available, can someone also let me know if I can install it without taking off the hub?
On suspension wear in general, is it reasonable to put the car up on jackstands and try to deflect things to get a feel for condition? Everything besides these strut rods seem to be very tight but I'm thinking that this might be why my tires are wearing quickly in the back and, in general, the car seems more uncertain in crosswinds. Thoughts?
