We're hijacking Matt's thread but I guess this info is relevant.
I really like the look of the 98-00 climate control over the 95-97. I might consider rewiring as Terje has suggested. I'm freaking lucky I did not blow up my car . I've probably fried something else in the car in the process. It's a real learning experience.
Otherwise, I will just source a 95-97 climate control and be done with it.
Apologies Matt. I hope you get yours right.

I am an electronics guy and this is not something I would even consider, 96 to 98 is a huge jump electronically.

Oh, Yes you are.
98 models have started to use the CAN bus system and there is a big gap.

I have a 1997 (series III) Non Sat Nav version Celsior AC control unit part number 55900-50182 if it's any use to you.
I also have a 1994 Celsior with Sat Nav which looks very similar to the one you have fitted with the white AC contol unit.
Sorry about the picture, took in the dark.

ok members,
ater having a look at my JDM ac/nav assembly, and from the pic below i have come to conclude that my ac setup and nav system are built into one, and despite the same identical 4 jacks to the rear of your US 96-98 models climate control, we can see that there are 4 grey jacks to rear of my white piece and then the white and blue jacks which connect to the following circuit board. This circuit board is responsible for both a/c and nav system. I have had an electrician check through this board thoroughly for continuit, power etc. There is continuity and power is going to the main chip. However, the system is not comming on. Therefore i am to believe that the main chip as seen in the pic below has gone. please inform me were i can source this chip readily..

Thank you

hey, can you get me the name and numbers off those caps!

those big IC's rarely if ever fail - but capacitors fail in everything!

looks like there are at least 15 of them that I can see in your pic!

I say that big Fujitsu Nav processor is just fine!!

The circuit board is nothing to do with the A/C.

From Post #9, we can see that the 4 grey jacks plug into the blank off-white looking unit. Now notice I said BLANK, meaning no control options.

The only control unit that has control options is the BLACK unit itself (NAV and AC). To the rear of this unit are the white and blue jacks. The same white and blue jacks that jack into this board. Therefore, this board is responsible for AC and NAV control options.

Cowboy, as soon as I disassemble this unit to change the chip I'll surely take some closer pics and numbers for you.
And I am aware that it is rare for these chips to go bad, however if you would remember me asking about ribbon wiring repair, well this is what was done on this unit. 3 of my ribbon wiring tore, prior to which the AC was working. However, these ribbon wiring were repaired, and tested to which there is continuity. The only options is the main chip, as even the caps were checked.

The buttons and lcd's are in the same unit, but the ac system is controlled through the grey connectors.

My 98 ls400 had the factory nav and have 1white,1blue and 4grey connectors.

The 4 connectors are on the same white box as mentioned here.

Now i have removed the nav system and now use a non nav ac control.

The 4 grey connectors are the only connectors used and the ac works just fine.

the main chip is not bad, and this board does not control your A/C

you would be wise to listen to Yamae - he is a famous Japanese electrical engineer with close ties to Nippon Denso and Toyota, who designed your A/C system - Yamae has over 100 patents - and no, that last part is not a typo!

I do not understand why you want to listen to some local yokel and not world renown experts

I have the utmost respect for Yamae, and Im aware of his competencies. I was just thinking logically from what I saw on the board.
Its just very frustrating without ac.
I guess ill proceed to purchase a USD 1997 (series III) Non Sat Nav version Celsior AC control unit. Hopefully this will plug right in
