Default ANOTHER set of tyres destroyed

doh..

thats now 4 complete sets in 10,000kms..

how do you vip boys handle the cost of tyres..

currently looking at coil overs to raise the car up.. a set of Figs engineering anti chamber rear lower control arms to help sit the tyre up..

once the wheels sit in a decent position i can then run a slightly wider tyre to match to the rims..

cause apparently having tread smaller than the rim size rips the side walls up..

which is what mine is doing..

lol it's all about toe. toe is what kills your tires the most. toe kills tires faster than camber does. get a proper alignment and keep your toe in check and your tires should last you awhile. been running -6.5 to -7 in the rear and -4 in the front for awhile now.. tire tread still good.

Any recent alignment specs to post up? As xtremex626 mentioned, toe is a very important part of the alignment. Camber and tire pressure also play in so they all work together. If suspension bushings are worn, getting a good alignment is going to be tough so tire wear will be a constant issue.

if we can handle the cost of going VIP, we should certainly handle the cost of tires haha! but i hear ya. just keep that toe alignment happy.

you can go with a harder treadwear tire, like somewhere in the 400 range. also get a symmetrical tire so you can "flip" them when one side is worn.

I like this idea!

Otherwise you may want to invest in buying a large amount of cheap tires to keep at the house. A few of the local guys that are into "stance" do that.

Thats crazy !! 4 sets in 10k km!?!? I just dropped 2300 on Michelin PS2 on my LS. I can only imagine what an LS460 would do to a set of tires if slammed VIP style. Gotta pay to play but that a little nuts for me

Default Sick

I guess there's too much engineer in me; seeing deliberate rigging and distortion like that makes me nauseous.

Everything's bolted down suspension wise. The angles on the upper/lower control arms aren't optimal nor are they optimal for the ball joints and boots and the stress points at those angles were never what they were designed for The angle tires roll on definitely distort the tires yes, and yet the car rolls and rolling at those angles never cease to amaze me

The scraping makes me want to cry. Figuratively, of course. I want his exhaust though, and I WANT IT NAO.

But more on topic, I don't really know as much about wheels/stance/tires as some of the other "low lifes" here, but the alignment theory sounds pretty on the mark. While most stance-y cars increase their tire wear, they aren't nearly as bad as your's. And, if the alignment doesn't work, it's time to go air ride (and if you've already got coilovers, you just saved yourself about $1k haha).
