Default wedge headlights go on when i step on brake

ok so i got this little issue i just found out about my 92 LS400 .... so when the headlights are off and i set on the brake the wedge part of the headlights go on and the inside: radio, air, ash tray... those lights go on too.

you also hear the sound of the gear shifter releasing so you can pull it from P to R

now when i turn the headlights on you hear the gear shifter disengage and i no longer have to push the brake to get it out of P.

does anyone know what would be causing this

thanks

ummm i'll look into that ... i think i saw a video on youtube showing that ... but my reverse light does not come on.

so i think it might have to be something else ..... with the headlights.... like i mentioned when i turn on the headlights the mechanism for the shifter release goes on and off ... i do not have to use the brake...

WOW thanks PureDrifter that was pretty much it .... though what i narrowed it down to was the top right back brake light bulb .... it was broke and was shorting out the whole system ....

i'm going to take it out tomorrow and run around with the headlights on just to make sure the electrical smell does not come back ... but i think a $2 light bulb was the culprit

I got in the car a hour ago and sropve down the street and I noticed that tranny doesn't shift now!? Even when I manually shift up is this the cause of that problem too?

Update I drove around today after the fix and the radio was working fine. Now I just drive home and the radio is no longer working it cuts in and out when it wants to and when it is one it sounds like they're blown. I'm stumped
