Default New to the boards with a 93 LS400

Just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Andy and just got this Lexus this past Sunday. I'm loving it so far, but does have minor issues, nothing major.

Not much done to the LS except the previous owner put on Megan Coilovers as the airride suspension was shot.

One of my main worries right now is the sunroof. It intermittently opens and closes but will not close all of the way. Meaning, it will close, but the rear of the glass will not pop up and seal the rearend of the sunroof.

I've tried searching and read a few threads about sunroof issues, but have not come across this issue in any of them. The previous owner told me that when he was shutting the sunroof it made a pop sound. I can hear the motors running when I use the switches, it just won't pop up the rear... Any ideas????

Oh, here's a pic. Don't have too many right now...:

I'll take a pic tomorrow of where the sunroof currently sits.

Looks good.. .I have those same rims on my 93.... I know you'll enjoy the ride once you get a few problems addressed...to be expected with a 20 year old car.

sunroofs take a special breed of mechanic to work on them, a patient one! - but luckily this is an area that doesn't tend to go bad on an LS400, so plenty of dirt cheap parts at the junkyard and on ebay, unfortunately the headliner has to be removed for most repairs

you want to find a mechanic who prides himself on being able to get any sunroof to act right, this is an area where extensive sunroof experience is a huge plus

Haven't done much to the LS, but have replaced the caps, rotors, plugs and wires, along with a fuel filter, custom intake tube with cone filter, and replaced all four O2 Sensors and replaced the oil pan gasket (horrible leak due to previous somebody using liquid rubber gasket and the pan gasket)... This thing runs like a champ now. Actually feels like a V8 again!!

I loathe them too, I never use mine and love a car much more when there is no sunroof/moonroof. Its one less thing to go wrong/leak and I just prefer the look of cars without em.

But since the LS400 is a luxury car....it was inevitable.

And welcome aboard OP, hope you get your sunroof issue fixed and car looks good.

Replaced my broken power antenna with a universal "shorty" replacement. Works great!

And yes, if you noticed, the car is raised up for the winter time..

I have these to put on when I get some tires and when Spring time comes back around. Picked them up from a friend for $80.
