Well I can't really see how much output the alternator has since the car will not really run to do so.

But the Battery and its connections all seem to be quality. Checking the voltage at the posts, vs else where, still shows the same amount of juice, so I feel very confident that I wasn't losing any voltage due to corrosion.

But I still plan to swap out the positive terminal at some point. With the OEM Toyota one.

Sadly that could be a while, due to the "life distraction" I mentioned via pm.

Anyway I thought I had an idea, but it wasn't even close.

So maybe at some point soon I can have more time for it, but I don't now so I may give it up for now.

So 3 Months after My last update on this.

Car Hasn't been touched.
I've been away.
I've been checking most every pull a part type auto parts yard within eh 140ish miles, every week looking for a 95-97 LS400 to pull an ECU out of.

11-07-13 A junkyard about 110 miles away put one out, Got up there, the car wasn't wrecked, in fact it had not that much body damage, a broken back glass, and some interior damage. The ECU was in the car, I got the stuff out of the way, and I was successful in removing the ECU. ECU labels read as
89661-50225
Which would be an earlier version than what was in my car which was
89661-50304

I haven't opened the 50225 yet to see how it looks on the inside, As best I can tell the car I pulled it from was working up to sometime in the spring. The lack of serious body damage slightly worries me that this car also had the same failure as mine, but will maybe know more after opening the ecu. From the outside the ECU looks to be in good shape.

it is a year earlier ('95), but will actually probably work, as 95 and 96 are probably the two most identical years!

I have been worrying about you, BobSmith. Anyway I think I'd better to inform you as much as I know.
For a 1995 US model except for California, the ECU number 89661-50220 or 89661-50221 were equipped at Toyota's Tahara manufacturing line.

Later on the TSB was released and it said," Replace with 89661-50224."
89661-50224 includes the prevention of too low idle or engine stop problem when both the throttle body and injectors are clogged.

I didn't know there existed 89661-50225 but judging from only 1 increment, it must be a minor change version of 89661-50224. Basically, 89661-50224 works well with a 96 model and I think 89661-50225 works well with your car if those capacitors are OK.

yes, the current (final) model for '95 was 89661-50225 and the current (final) model for '96 was 89661-50304

in USA models, '95 and '96 were essentially identical cars

An intermediate update.

Today I've done the following: I checked to make sure the battery was disconnected. I've disassembled the required interior, Aka, the glove box. I've removed the old ECU (304) that was in the car. I've put the new ECU (225) in. I've checked voltage on the battery, and its only at 11.8v, It has been sitting for months. So I have it on the charger. Once It's got a bit more charge, I will reconnect the battery, and we shall see if success or less than success is the resultant.

yeah, ECU's like a battery that is at 12.6V with car off - don't be afraid to buy a new battery, sitting parked for a long time kills them permanently, in many cases!

It ran for about 40 seconds.
It sounded like it should.
All the instrument panel lights were bright.
And then It died.
The Check light was blinking.
So I found my odbII reader.
Gave me 4 codes.
p300, p303, p304, p308

That seems to be some cylinders misfiring?

Some further googling suggests the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

The fact that I had a "random misfire' on 8,4,3. Makes me wonder if that is some sort of hint to what happened? Since those correspond to the firing order?

Further info.
I do not believe the "new" ecu is why the car ran today for 40ish seconds.
I think that was a product of the car sitting for 3 months without anyone messing with it.

The "new" ecu in the car, the car now does as it did.
It throws no codes, but it only runs for a moment. Just as it did in the old youtube video I have.

I am somewhat at a loss, its dark out now, so I likely won't be messing with it anymore tonight, and maybe none morrow.

Any thoughts?

Well time to dredge this back up.
I've in the past few days have swapped back in the original ecu.
Purchased a new battery, and tomorrow am going by the local toyota dealership to get a 90982-05037.
Hopefully it is instock. They sorta seem to be fans of the "head in rearend" style of doing things.

This brings me to what I'm up to.
I've decided to tow dolly it up to the nearest Lexus Dealership for service.

Do I need to do anything to the car pre-towing the 100ish miles away?

I think the drive shaft needs to come off. Gotta check my owners manual.
