Default Exhaust normal temp

Hi,

Does anyone know what the normal temp for the exhaust system (catalytic converter) for a 98 LS400 is? My gf was driving the car the other day and when she got out she told me that she could feel warm air coming out from under where the drivers door is. She tends to drive the car harder than I do, so I am thinking that it could be because of that (running a little warmer. Someone told me that the cats run at over 600F; is this true? This is probably nothing, but when something is JDLR, I like to investigate before things potentially become an issue. Just looking to see if anyone else has experienced any of this, or has input to share. Thanks

If it was hot out, i wouldn't really bo concerned. My cars radiate quite a bit of heat out from underneith after they have been stopped. Especially since the LS400 has two cats and quite a complex exhaust system.

the only time I would worry about cat temperature is if you ever see them glowing red hot, this typically indicates the car is running open loop and there is a problem.
