Default new water pump, no gasket neccessary?

Im looking at a new water pump and there is no available gasket, just the sealant. for 1uz engine.

I looked through a few tutorials on this site and no one has mentioned the fact that you cant buy these gaskets anymore. has anyone encountered this?

the water pump kits i received came with a new preformed gasket. the factory water pump is sealed with FIPG (form in place gasket) so you can certainly use sealant alone.

in this tutorial, he uses sealant alone (orange high temp stuff)!

i prefer to use a preformed gasket which makes future changes much easier. finding that gasket alone may be difficult as you pointed out.

Hell, even the OEM Aisin waterpump comes with a preformed gasket. That's one thing i really dislike about the 90's 1UZFEs, is the fact that they went CRAZY with the FIPG crap! I know some people will disagree with me because they seal very well, but i HATE scraping that garbage off

Too bad they didn't use Metal gaskets back then like they do nowadays.. They are a bit more expensive, but your scraping/surface prep work is basically reduced to just wiping it down with a solvent

Agreed! - FIPG sucks unless you have your own robot to apply it like like Toyota did

if you are using the OEM Aisin water pump, as you should be, it comes with a gasket, as YoshiMan mentioned. - it's also in the full Aisin timing belt kit TKT-030

Lexus didn't use a gasket on water pump or tranny pan, they have robots, doesn't mean you shouldn't, you probably don't have an FIPG applying robot!

Try NAPA autoparts. The kit I bought came with a metal gasket. The parts looked like oem manufactures. Asin mitsuboshi and a few I cant rember.

The Aisin kit full of original Toyota parts to which you refer is great, but NAPA's price on it is a ripoff and omits the important hydraulic tensioner, you can find the full kit for much less online, all the OEM timing belt stuff: bearings, belt, tensioner + water pump & gasket for less than $200 to your door
