Default best way to remove the coolant/thermo outlet flange?

So I'm in the middle of doing the timing belt and water pump job and I've reached a bit of an impasse.

The coolant outlet flange that attaches to the coolant cross-over and the top of the water pump is being difficult and I don't want to force it.

I have the new rubber o-ring and have consulted with both the service manual and the dealer parts diagrams so I know they come apart but whoever sealed this up the last time did one hell of a job!

Is there a trick some of you have used to separate this part from the cross over tube which is where i'm stuck on?

On an related note, I hate diving into a maintenance project with a large pile of replacement parts only to find out I need even more parts. Funny part is I knew I'd probably need them but was hoping i could get away without them.... Now I have to wait for a week for the other parts to show up.

rubber mallet if you are sure the 2 fasteners are removed connecting the water outlet to the water pump and the bypass hose from the IAC valve is disconnected

if some idiot used locktite or something, you may have to get in there with a putty knife to break the bond, and in doing that you may mar the o-ring sealing surface, which gets replaced with a new water pump on that side, but the water outlet side may take some gunsmithing to get the o-ring seating surface to reseal if you have to hack it up.

Cowboy is right. I went through the same thing with my water pump change. The thing with mine was, some moron had run strait water in the cooling system and it had started to oxidize. Just keep at it with the mallet. It will break free.

Ok, that's what I was doing but didn't want to cause any collateral damage.

I've done a LOT of TB&WP jobs in my day but I have never come across a outlet seal as stubborn as this. Almost as if the previous tech sealed it in place with Fuzor.

The flange from the WP to the outlet separated without issue, it's just the pipe into the cross over that is giving me grief. I'll just be slightly more forceful with my rubber dead-blow when I get back at it later in the week.

Good thing I'm waiting on parts...

Thanks gents!
