Default 1990 ls400 clock spring question.

The Airbag light came on long ago after I changed the alt. I have read that it is commonly the clock spring. I probably have the least knowledge about the airbag system compared to the rest if the systems in the car so I am hesitant to touch anything.

I broke down an LS at the pick n pull and it was fairly straight forward but there was one section of wires that seem to run through the clock spring and do not seen to have any visible connector.
Am I missing the connector somewhere?
Should I cut the wires and splice them into the wires in my car?(I know how to do it correctly)
Do I open the unit and remove the wire and replace with the one on my car?

I'm sure it will be gone tomorrow because of someone who knows these answers but I would like the info for the future.
Thanks!
