lol its for a pre cat o2 on bank 1. Does anyone know if thats driver or passenger side? Part will be here Monday

I figured it was on the driver side. And the code is P0420. Any advisement's you can make that I may be overlooking? I'm fairly sure it is it o2 sensor. This thread is a mess lol Intro thread to diagnostic thread, etc. etc.

Good call. I just checked and on the driver side the gasket after the cat has a very noticeable leak. I'll change that gasket out and report back

Ihave a 95 and my gf has a 00. Both were northern rusty cars with exhaust leaks. Both were bought for peanuts because dealers told em they needed 5k in cat work.
So this might seem ghetto buts its worked for 3+ years. I took aluminum foil, folded it multiple times, and wrapped it around the flange(?)(where the gasket goes). Then i took large hose clamps and wrapped em around the aluminum.
Oh also, i did this because the flange was so badly rusted, that a new gasket would not have sealed it.
No CEL or leaks for 3+ years. These cars can nickel and dime you as they age...
just an idea... if you wanna save your $$$ for fancy tires and synthetic oil... and oem parts.

Swapped out the gaskets this afternoon, and reset the ECU. No CEL yet, granted I've only put 10 miles on the car since. May have to dig out some hose clamps and give it a shot if it turns into a reoccurring problem. Thanks

Well in case anyone was following this because they have a similar problem, or just for fun, the drivers side pre-cat o2 was at fault.
I found a small exhaust leak between the cat and Y pipe so I bought a new gasket and threw that on. Reset the ECU and the P0420 code came back on within 5 miles.
Yesterday afternoon I picked up an o2 crowfoot wrench so that I didn't strip the crap out of the sensor with an adjustable (been there, done that). I have put 45 miles on the car since and still have no CEL. Pretty confident that took care of it. Going to get state inspection done tomorrow, so we'll see!
