Default Leaking Power steering

When the car is cold it makes a whinning noise and the reservoir is leaking oil. What are the steps to solve this problem? New power steering pump or can the leakage be fixed?
Thanks
Chris

There is a seal kit to fix it, but my experience is that it doesn't last long. I ended up doing the kit, then replacing the pump anyway a year later when it failed again.

Also, the pump is right above the alternator, and the fluid tends to drip down and ruin it. So, make sure you fix this quickly, and keep an eye on the alternator afterwards to make sure it is still functioning properly. I ended up replacing that too -- bad luck, I guess.

I JUST went threw this whole mess. Infact I just got my car back a day ago. Its a really crappy situation to be in and can be pretty expensive. If you go read that post you'll see that when I turned the car on the tank was pushing fluid out from the cap and making some REALLY loud sounds. Anyways had to have it towed to the dealership because it totally stopped working and they replaced the pump, tank and hoses for just over $900 but I need 4 new tires plus alignment so the total was somewhwere about $1500. Good luck. BTW I tried pouring some more PS fluid with that leak stopped stuff in it and it did nothing. The sound got louder and the steering got worse. Just be careful because the more you drive the worse the problem will get.

Oh forgot to mention....My PS pump post in the the SC forum. I dont know how helpful it will be but this is a very common and similar problem for LS and SCs

Look if your Rack-on-pinio is leaking. You can easily se it if you look under the car. If the rubber gasket on the right side is wet, there is a good chance you would need to replace the whole thing.

It is a 92 LS 400 with 410000km on it. At 150000km the PS was not working at idle only above 1200rpm. A valve hat to be fixed. Thats it. The alternator is also the first nerver had any trouble.
