Thumbs down Barbara Streisand... (BS) on HP LS400

Ok, I told everyone that I would check out Sean Gillettes reported 273rwhp 1st gen LS400...

I hate to say it but this guy is NOT telling the truth. WhatEVER he has accomplished... it is NOT what he claims.

I must add that I have NOT seen his car. I did have a 20 minute conversation with him and was puzzled by some of his statements. That in and of itself is not enough to make the above statement so let me give some evidence. Oh, I have not been able to reach him again (he sent me his cell number) and does not return my messages. I did not say anything insulting to him but he may have realized I knew what I was talking about and decided to "dissapear"... he has NOT been on the board since.

Ok, he claimed:
"My last dyno showed 273 RWHP at 5,823 and then 291 torque at 5,236"

First of all, dynos do not generally give odd RPM readings. It is usually at every 100 or 500 or possible 50 rpm point but NOT at 5823 or 5236 rpm.

Second, he claims 273 rwhp at 5823 rpm but 291 rwtq at 5236 rpm. Problem is... 291 rw torque at 5236 rpm = 290 rwhp. Why would he not claim 290rwhp???

Third he claims 13.4 at 104mph as his best 1/4 mile. Now, this is very close to what an LS1 Z28 or Trans Am runs. Those cars have 300rwhp and 315rwtq, weight 400lbs less and have LSD. I find this claim NOT believable.

He claims 5.3 second 0-60 but does not say HOW he is measuring this. You need a GTech or some other device because the 1/4 mile does not give you this data (unless you happen to run 60mph in the 1/8 )

He claims to be launching hard enough to destroy drivetrain parts... again, without LSD... unbelievable.

Now, he may be making decent power. He may have ran a 13.4... with NITROUS... but none of his claims jive with the truth.

Regardless... I would still like to check out his car... ASSUMING he actually HAS a Lexus AT ALL!!!

Sorry for this post but the truth is the truth...

Nice.

It seemed strange to me after dynoing my car that I get a around 170 HP and he's getting 250 at the wheel like my test showed.

Seemed wayyy to high..must be NOS.

I am actually confident that 300+rwhp can be had from our motors... even the 90-94 engines. Although, it will require different intake and exhaust MANIFOLDs to get there PLUS at the very least a removal or resetting of the REV limiter.

The 250hp rated 1UZ-FE in the 90-94 LS400 and SC400 through 95 looks to make in the 170-180rwhp stock. The 95-97 260hp rated engine should be at least 10hp over that. The 300hp GS400 generally makes from 225-240rwhp depending on the car and dyno. I cannot find a good Dyno-Jet reading of the 98-2000 LS400 with its 290hp rating but I would guess 10-20hp less than the GS. I plan on dyno-ing my 99 early this year and then making some step by step improvements with dyno testing or a G-Tech accelerometer horsepower reading as compared to the Dyno-Jet.
