Default Anyone put a Mushroom Intake?

I've been looking into getting a K&N e2606 drop in filter for my 93 LS400 but thought about a HKS Mushroom filter instead. It has more filter area than the K&N which would probably be better. I already have the Jbrady mod done but i want the extra suction noise an aftermarket filter provides haha.

So any thoughts or opinions on a mushroom filter would be greatly appreciated

the heat soak added to the "open element" filter would actually hurt horsepower. if all you want is sound, i say go for it. since you already did the jbrady mod, then the sound increase you will get will be minimal.

More suction noise? Get individual throttle bodies.

those HKS filters SUCK at actually filtering. the K&N is better. Foam filters generally don't filter very good at ALL and don't last as long between cleanings.

Thats what I wanted to hear, Thanks ! I figured since I'll be needing a new air filter I might as well buy a K&N one for a bit more, plus I can clean them

I tried just the aftermarket cone filter on the end of my MAF intake pipe and yes, it heat soaks... bad. It did give a nice noise though.
I then cut a hole in my air box, which I'm assuming is the "jbrady mod", and replaced with a k&n filter. Still has the throaty noise of the aftermarket cone filter and none of the heat soak.

That plus over time foam dried up and start to fall apart and can be sucked into the engine itself. Very much like interior padding you find when you take your interior apart.

What about getting a K&N cone filter and building some sort of box for it? I have been thinking of doing this myself.

I'm just running a foam cone filter on the end of the maf. Like someone else stated, it sounds good but gets heat soak. I don't have a stock box to put on it, so I will be building one at some point.

possibly fruitful, but the OEM filter is pretty big and has a LOT of surface area from the pleats, so there's unlikely to be any increase.

Nice, the way it's set up from factory is basically a CAI so I guess all it's missing is a good filter
