Default And The Restoration Begins Again

A truck and I side swiped eachother at about 30mph last week.
Fun stuff.

fender ruined.
parking light ruined.
clear corners ruined.
bumper torn.
wheel scratched pretty bad.
Wiper fluid resevoir cracked.

The fender was bent in such a way that I could not open my door more than a few inches. Just took the fender off and hammered it back "straight" and put it back on. so now my door opens but it still looks jacked up.

I plan on replacing the fender, parking light, corner lamp, and leaving the bumper the way it is unless I can find a cheap replacement. Closest 95-97 at a junkyard is 2 hours away and the drivers side/bumper has been sold already. so my hopes arent very high.

It could have been way worse so Im not upset. Nobody was hurt, which is what matters. The damage is only cosmetic and I can fix everything but the paint. Parts are roughty $250 plus the cost to paint the fender, which isnt too bad.

one side still looks good!

yea, it is what it is though.
I am surprisingly less upset that I thought I would be if I ever wrecked her.

shes only a car and life goes on.
I loved this ls400 more than life itself. But since the wreck ive had some realizations.
Its just a car and is only worth so much. Everything is easily fixable so it it is not worth thinking about night and day.

Ill get her fixed and will keep this thread updated with photos.

She not that out of shape.

And after seeing your restoration, nothing seems implossible.

You're going to need a body shop to massage the fender back into place as the mounts are likely bent from the collision.

Just buy a new fender, carson and sewell sell that for not a ridiculous amount of money. Used bumper shouldn't be too hard to find.

it's matching the paint that will be the difficult part. this is a three stage pearl white you have here. matching white in general is already difficult. add it being a pearl and you have one of the hardest colors to match.

i would try and source an already painted fender just to avoid this concern.

I actually think that white is a particularly easy color (or would that be "non-color") to match. I had a lot of paint work done on the Diamond White Pearl 90 LS I drove for 13 1/2 years and even more on the metallic Crystal White 00 LS I've driven since 2003 and the paint matching has been incredibly good. The main caution is that adjoining undamaged panels should be "blended" so that the transition between new and old paint is gradual.

Now if I could just keep all those cell phone using / texting A-holes to stop hitting my cars ....
