what year? passenger side on a gen 1 is listed in mitchell labor as about 2 or 3 hours i believe...drivers side a little less. as for replacement cost..that depends on labor rate. you will need to get the spark plug tube seals if they arent in the gasket set...call toyota not the lexus dealer because they are cheaper. if u need the part number call lexus and ask them...then call toyota and give them the number. you will need 8 total and u might as well do the cam plugs as well (located on the back of the heads)

Its expensive for how easy it is. its just time consuming.
get yourself 2 gaskets, 8 spark plug seals, and a tube of high oil rtv sealant.
I did mine with zero mechanical ability and had no trouble.

make a day of it and go ahead and do the plugs and wires and clean the throttle body while your there.

I believe I was quoted 5 hours of labor. or 500.
with all new parts I still saved about 300

So how close is this 90-94 VCG DIY compared to trying it on my 95 model?
http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/engine/valvecover.html

I have done a VCG before on a 3 series BMW and it was alot easier than this one looks.

Very close.
iirc the throttle body is the only thing that is different.
And its easier with ours imo.
I just labeled every hose and wire that I disconnected with a piece of masking tape and a number on both sides of the connection. Putting everything back where it belonged was a snap.

Start with the passenger side and the drivers side will blow you away with how easy it is.

$free.99 in labor if you're willing to put up with an afternoon of skinned knuckles and cursing...

Paid 120 for my mechanic to do valve covers and spark plug gaskets to be changed. Brought my own parts purchased online. Oh also had them change my fuel filter since they had my car and ive been meaning to do so.
