Default Started to mock up my exhaust (pics)

I started to mock up the exhaust today, to get idea of what it will look like.

No cats
2 1/2 from manifolds back
x-pype
magnaflow round mufflers
Pypes "Pype Bomb" tips with built in resonators

Here are a couple pics of the tips, and about how they will look sticking out of the back. The car will be on coilovers here soon, and I think these will look pretty sick. The car will also be painted a matte black.

What do you guys think?

Here's a couple LS's in matte black, just to give you an idea of what mine will be looking like in the next couple months.

you need to drop the pipe size to 2.25 if you don't wanna lose torque across the rev range. any particular reason you don't want to run cats? The stock cats in the LS are a very high flowing metal substrate so there's next to no power to be gained...

do removing the stock cats change the sound? i suppose if they are high flowing then sound is not affected.

I was planning to remove the cats for a couple reasons. I would think it would sound better, and I think it's about time to replace them anyway. My current exhaust is just dumped under the car. I believe one of the cats is falling apart on the inside. I had some material come out on the driveway after hitting the cat with a hammer on the outside. As far as size goes, I'm hopefully about to get my hands on a supercharger. I'm thinking that should make up for the torque loss.... hopefully.

still going to have cavitation and muck up the flow with the 2.5, removing the cats will not help you long run and just make the car smell funny lol.

even 4.6L mustangs rarely go past 2.5"

I'll rethink the setup. I had just planned on 2 1/2inch because I had already had a 2 1/2 x-pype from another project. I guess I could always pick up another one. Ok, so how about the tips? I think they fit the car pretty good. They were made for a new mustang but I cut off the uneeded parts to fit.

Thanks

Just off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure they are 4in oustide diameter. I got both of them new for $40 from a swap meet at a car show. I looked them up on the pypes website, and they are about $350 a set. I love the way they look. I'll post up more pictures of the exhaust and a vid of how it sounds when I get it finished.

Ok, so I changed my mind and went with 2 1/4. I just got the mufflers today and the x-pype. I went with the dynomax bullet race mufflers instead of the magnaflow. Hopefully I'll have it all welded up this friday. I'll post more pics when it's being put on the car.

Well.... I do like it to be a little loud. The tips have built in resonators, so hopefully it will have a nice sounds, but not to crazy loud. I'm taking a chance on the mufflers, and if I don't end up liking the sound I'll switch them out. I'm just hoping it doesn't sound to raspy.

i don't know these cars that well to be able to say for sure but in my experience running just resonators, which is what those small "mufflers are," usually results in a lot of rasp.

My current setup was just some stuff i had lying around in the garage. It's stock cats, stock y-pype to a 3inch single pype into a single 3inch resonator and then dumps out on the passenger side. It sounds amazing for what it is, but it was just a temp setup.
