Picked up 1st Gen project, Need help with accel issue
Hey everyone!
Picked up a '92 LS with 165k today. What a smooth car. I'm blown away with how well the car has held up to the test of time, though it does have its qwirks. One of which is an acceleration issue. Its difficult to describe, so I took a video when I was driving the car home to show you guys. I did a bit of research and have figured its possible that its anything from a TPS to Shift Solenoids. Now for what its worth, the PO told me he replaced the TPS and he gave me the old one he had taken out of the car. He also mentioned to me that its possible the TPS isn't calibrated properly. I should also note that the TRAC light that is in the middle of the speedometer is lit up. After driving the car for a bit after its sat, if you shut the car off and turn it back on the light does not come back on though it does not make a difference in the hesitations. Also think the O/D button is fuxed. Let me know what you guys think it might be please!
If its the shift solenoids then I'm not too concerned. I am planning on 5spd swapping the car over winter and won't have any more use for the slushbox.

when my car did this, the problem ended up being ECU capacitors
two other things to note:
1. when my friend's LS400 had a sort of similar issue (but at idle), the problem ended up being the Idle AIr Control Valve (IACV)
2. if you have TRAC, then you have two TPS's, not one!

None that I know of other than recent T Belt, Dist cap, and TPS.
It does it at all speeds, what I noticed is that it does it when traveling at a constant RPM. If I'm accelerating through the rev range than it does not hesitate. I'll try tomorrow to scan the car at autozone if they have an OBD1 scanner. Otherwise I'll have to wait for my friend to get out of work to go to his shop and use their Moodis.
Yes the PO explained this to me. He replaced the one that faces the front of the engine compartment. I'll see if I can peak into the ECU and see if the cap's have leaked. Thanks!
I haven't scanned the car yet.
