Default Help Power Steering issues

I have a 98 LS400. I've read the stickies but it does not answer my questios.

#1 What exactly does the solinoid on the power steering rack do?
#2 My problem, I've lost power steering, pump is quite, fluid is clean and full and obvious leaks anywhere..... BUT.. The solinoid appears to be damaged or modified and there is NO eletrical connection to it. I cant even find the wiring that is suppose to go to it. It's MIA. HELP!!!!!!!!!

So i found the plug for the solenoid. But the solenoid is damaged. Its been this way before i bought it and i never saw an issue. Also it seems I get powersteering back at highway speeds most of the time but it feels gone at idle and and putting around.. very hard and notchy.

This solenoid is not like the pre 98s. No screen to clean. It just pushes in and bolts down on one side.

Still needs ideas for help.

well the obvious solution if your solenoid is damaged/missing is to get a rebuilt rack with a working solenoid...
