Default New to me..........1999

Been lurking in this forum for a few weeks since the start of my LS400 search. About 10 days ago finally pulled the trigger on this 1999 LS400. This is not a daily driver -- pretty much a fair weather car.

Car has 140K miles, navi, heated seats and I think it pretty much has all the options available at that time. Was a California car for the first 8 years of its life and moved to IL after that. The car was dealer maintained until 2009 or at least that all the history I can find -- so all the major maintenance stuff are done. Paid $6K out the door. I though it was a fair price. Dealer selling price was $8K and I lowballed him and to my surprise he agreed.

Since the purchase I've done the following: Spark plugs(NGK Iriduim), engine oil (mobil 1), trans fluid (type IV) dropped the pan used 4 quarts, gear oil (Valvoline synth 75 90), air filter, cleaned the throttle body, seafoamed it via brake booster, ran techron fuel injector cleaner, tires balanced, DYI cabin filter, flushed the power steering fluid and also the brake fluid, tapped off the coolant with Toyota red. So I'm slowly catching up to all the maintenance it needs. It also has the LS430 17-inch chrome wheels.

I'm just loving the car right now. Smoothest car I've ever owned. Still get plenty of compliments from strangers. Some people think its an 2006-2009 model and are shocked when I tell them its a '99. I also really like the color (Silver Jade Pearl ) -- not very common around where I live.

Lovely. I have the same color and year minus your wheels and heated seats. Really digging the wheels. She looks in just fantastic shape. Congrats on the pickup.

congrats on the car, looks like a clean purchase.

sorry to burst your bubble but that's not Imperial Jade (6Q7). 6Q7 is a much darker, deeper green and was sold on '98-00 cars.

^6Q7 Imperial Jade Mica, member Rugster's car.

What you have seems to be the Silver Jade Pearl (6P7), which was available in '97 Coach edition cars, and '98-99 cars.

Thanks for the kind words. Really love this car.

Question:

On the picture below, the area highlighted in red, when my headlights are on at night that area DOES NOT light up. Please let me know if it's suppose to illuminate or not. It would be really helpful to see the display when its dark out. thx.

yes, they are (at least, on a non-nav, should be the same on yours). However to replace the bulbs behind them you have to pull the headunit and open it up.

I'm missing the owner's manual for this LS. Can anyone tell me where and how to change the cabin air filter? Thx.

Open your bottom glove box and you will see a little slot or "door" in the back that opens and allows access to the cabin filter.

Thanks for the info. Filter was not too dirty so I just vacuumed it. Looks like that filter will run me about $25.

For the owner's manuals, go to Lexus.com - Owner Resources - and create an account. Register your VIN and you can download the set of manuals for your car. If I remember correctly, you can also request a (free) copy for the manuals.
