Whether any inspections are that critical would be hard to say. There is sufficient adjustment control to level and aim the beam if necessary. It will not illuminate as would a right hand drive, spec car. The presumption I'm working from is that your headlights are properly aimed. Unless the car needs to be inspected prior to entry/approval to the region, I would just leave it.

Technically there is a difference but this isn't like the people stateside who are using HID systems and the resulting beam output is capable of blinding drivers. Your factory halogen lights should not be offensive.

if you have RHD head light housing they can not be adjusted for LHD you need LHD head light housing to pass inspection in europe i believe

Do people still use adhesive tape on headlight lenses when taking cars between LHD and RHD countries as a way to cut down glare to oncoming drivers?

According to the information below you will need headlight convertors/adaptors.
"Headlamp Adaptors - UK vehicles are designed for driving on the left hand side of the road this will mean that when driving in France you will dazzle oncoming drivers. Failure to adapt your headlamps will render the vehicle UNFIT for the road. invalidating your motor insurance and could result in a spot fine"

It also gets worse you also need to carry a breathalizer and various other items including a dayglo jacket.
Full details below.

Here is a description of the adapters available from Halfords: "These self-adhesive masks blank out the part of the beam which could dazzle oncoming drivers."

These stick on masks for both RHD and LHD vehicles used to be and may still be available at car ferry ports on both sides of the channel. They certainly are fancier than the masking tape people used in the past.

Here is info about the Halfords product: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165458
