Default Remote Key

Hey... Newbie here... Recently bought a 1994 LS400 w/ 100k. When I bought the car, the guy only had one key and it was the valet key... Any ideas on a fairly inexpensive way to get another remote key made? I was told that it could require a new ECU.???

Thanks for any help or direction you could provide.

That seems like a load of balony to me. I could have sworn you can buy a set of OEM keys (not inexpensive) andgo through a quick procedure yourself to program them. There might be something in the FAQS sticky.

for 95+ cars yes, i believe for ucf1x (maybe just 89-92, i forget) you have to have a chip swapped out in the ecu.

The ClubLexus price at Sewell Lexus, a forum sponsor, is $273.60 for two remote keys and the matching ROM chip that inserts into the keyless entry ECU in the trunk. Sewell also has valet keys and wallet keys at significant discounts. You have to register with your ClubLexus forum name to see the discounts: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...S400-1994.html

Disregard the generic instructions on the Sewell website about programming 90-94 LS400 keys since there really is not any "programming" for the keys of those years - all you do is replace the ROM chip in the ECU.

$274 for two keys is a great price; I paid about that for one from a dealer in ATL.
