Default Look at the lights!

Hello guys. put the timing belt on last night. buttoned everything up and...nothing. Car turns over. All the idiot lights are lit up. wont start. put a jumper on diagnostic plug, code 41. getting a nice blue spark. plenty of fuel pulled no.1 plug(smelled of gas). Acually it was soaked. the spark was off of the drivers side coil. a question. the timing mark on the crank. is it suppsed to be @ 12 Oclock or 6 oclock when lining the marks up? gonna pull it all apart and recheck every thing i did.

Also does anyone know a part number for the battery in the key for the 91 Ls? I think i remember reading the immoblizer causing this kind of behavior. All input is greatly appreaciated.

thanks, Dan.

A dead key battery has nothing to do with starting or running - how would the batteryless valet key work if it did? If you need a key battery, you should be able to get one at a battery specialty store. They should know which battery you need. I've bought key batteries for both Toyota and Lexus vehicles at Batteries Plus stores. It usually takes them only a couple of minutes to replace a key battery and they have the correct tools. Inexpensive too.

I've seen like over a dozen people (ok not that many) do timing belts and head gadkets and such and just put the wires in the wrong firing order and the car won't start. I would check the easy stuff first if I were you. Check all the connectors/grounds are back where they belong.

According to http://www.lexls.com/info/lsgenerations.html (and he is usually accurate) the immobilizer feature was not added until the 1997 model year.

The timing mark on the crank is at the 6 o'clock position. Set the crank pulley to 0tdc and make sure the cam marks are positioned correctly. At this point you can't look at the marks on the belt, they will be way off. If you are 180 out the cam marks wont be correct and you will unfortunately have to remove the belt and start over.

I just finished puttin back together...and she fired before I got my hand off the key. Sounds great. My problem was I was way off on my timing marks. Tried to follow lexls web page just couldnt work. So I gamble on 6 oclock and it worked.
