Default My first LS400

Hi guys. I just picked up my first lexus. A 91 ls400 with 205,000 miles on it. Love this fine automobile. But shes got the normal issues I've been reading about. cracked egr tube, slight low speed miss And dumpin a bunch of fuel into the motor..... so I'm gonna start with a basic tune up. timing belt after that. I'll start working on worn sensors next. any one got a list of the most failure prone sensors on this little motor?

pokin arounnd under the hood just gettin a feel for the old girl and found the service sticker for the timing belt. If its right my belts got 140k on it. A stretched belt would explain alot of the issues with this car. Couple a questions
1. the idlers and tensioners for this belt. I know its recommended that all this stuff is changed with the belt. funds bein low, I'm wonderin if i can get away with just a belt change?
2. Gasket material. gonna make my own gaskets for the covers(autozone 110.00) so cork or cardboard?
great forum! I've learned much from you guys. thanks Dan,.

if your timing belt snaps is will not ruin the engine, so you can take a risk.

later models cannot take that risk their engine will get seriously damaged by the timing belt

wait and get a aisin kit from ebay with the idlers and tensioners when you can afford it. dont worry about a stretched belt, I dont think it is causing you any of your troubles... just do it right the first time. and keep reading about the trunk hinge wiring.
