Default how to improve rear seat air conditioning

I have a 96 and the ac in the backseat is pretty poor. The front area is fine. I was wondering if there is some kind of filter in the back area that might be reducing the flow? Thanks.

I don't believe there is. Does the 96 model have a cabin filter? On my 99 you have to have the AC on at least medium to get any air flow in the back. What kind of pressure are you getting out of the rear vents with the AC turn fan turned up high? Also, Window tint does help to reduce heat

Welcome to Club Lexus.

Not much you can do unless there is an issue with the vent settings and the divider is not channeling airflow properly. I've had backseat passengers shut the flow off commenting it is to cold with the A/C on.

Try pressing the mode button until your climate control is in the mode that provides the maximum air flow to the rear seat area. The "little" arrow in the attached diagram points to the mode that does that.

Or buy an LS430. The base ones came with extra rear area vents in the door pillars and the Ultra Luxury package separate rear A/C system can just about cause frostbite.

Thanks. I have replaced the carbon filter behind the glove compartment. I was just wondering if there was a similar filter somewhere around the center console. I don't have any tint on the car and that would certainly help. I was thinking perhaps a rear window shield would be best but at this point I probably won't invest in that setup unless it is very easy to install. Thanks for all the help.

There is no HVAC filter for the rear seat area - only the one behind the glove box.

Window tint helps a lot. My wife thought it was silly until I removed the front passenger side tint after it was damaged by a body shop and then she complained about it being gone.

California sure has odd tint maximums - 70% on the front side windos and anything you want on the rear side and back. 70% hardly seems worth it. Is the 70% limit really enforced?

I've got 35% on my 00 LS sides and rear window. I would have left the back window untinted if Lexus still sold the rear window shade like I got for my 90 LS.

Damn I miss that rear shade. Here is another pic of it.

The JDM LS400 CF package ( Toyota Celsior) had a separate AC system for the rear passengers as well as audio controls located in the rear center arm rest, unfortunately mine is the C package and doesn't!

the 70% limit is basically a "no tint on the front windows" law.
