Default Silly Question: Engine Light + Brake Wear

My lady just called me and said the engine light is still on from this morning. I asked earlier if it was driving okay and she said yes. I told her to have our son make sure the gas cap it tight (this morning).

Well this evening she says it's still on but this time sends me a photo from her cell and I see that there is red light saying "Brake Wear". She says the brake wear light JUST came on.

Is it possible that engine light came on because of the brake sensor?

The way I see it I obviously need brakes now but just wondering if I should also be concerned that there is something else because of the engine light.

those are separate issues, and usually the CEL (check engine light) doesn't simply clear by turning off the engine. the code is stored and you will need to get a diagnostic tool. get one, plug it into your car's OBD port, get the code as to why the CEL is on in the first place, then you can clear the light afterwards.

Open the hood and look for the DLC connector. Short pin TE1 and E1 and count the CEL flashes to retrieve codes.
