Turning on A/C and idling makes my car shift gears.
JEEZ What is up with my car!?
When I turn my A/C on and have the car in drive if I let it idle (not giving it any gas) the car just drives on its own. It starts in 1st of course then it will shift up to second gear if I let it go.
this only happens with the A/C on which makes the car idle high.
Is this adustable? A car shouldn't go forward so much without my foot on the gas. This is a pain at stop lights and intersections, I have to either put the car in neutral or hold my foot on the brake pretty hard.

hmm. lets see. AC goes on, rpm goes up=car moves forward. i dunno about shifting gears on its own though....might happen. i know on my car (ES300) that if the compressor does that automatic on/off thing, and i am stopped at a red light the car might move forward a bit cuz i need more pressure on the brakes to keep the car still. i am going to turn my AC on and see if my car shifts gears too. will get back with my full report!

Well,
AC on -> high idle rpm, no brake -> car moves forward.
As long as the engine is producing more power than resistive drag, car's speed increases (aka. acceleration).
acceleration -> transmission shifting.
Nothing new or strange!
The question is how high should the engine idle with AC on?

My SC does the same thing. Its gotta be the most annoying thing in the world. It makes stopping the car a little difficult and jerky. When I turn my AC on the RPM jumps be close to 1K. Normally I'd idle at 4 to 500 and the braking is smooth and not whiplashy. When the AC is on the braking becomes noticably harder to stop the car and when it does to come the stop the stop is harsh and gives a whiplash effect almost. I'm not taking like people flying threw the windshield but like you can see the passengers heads go forward and if the AC was off and ID id the same thing they wouldnt really move at all. I still havent been able to figure out why this happens but I really do understand his problem.
