If you like the car that much. How is the engine running currently? How many miles?

not worth it 90% of the time since you can get a good condition 1uz for less than the cost of getting it rebuilt...

and the fact that they'll go 500,000 miles all day long on nothing but oil, gaskets, and timing belt.

Well if you have nothing better to do, go for it.

I'm with PD on this one. They are dirt cheap used so unless you were building it for more power (not sure if a kit even exists) it would likely be a waste of your time and money. I'm lazy though, only a real real special car would inspire me to do a full tear down and rebuild.

Are we missing something here? Perform regular maintenance, shut the hood and forget about it.

If you insist on getting another, check ebay.

Try www.car-part.com, they have a good library of used parts for most cars.

If the car is well taken care of, and is running well, then why are you looking to replace/rebuild the engine? With routine maintenance and care you should be good to go. I had my engine replaced in my 92, before I sold it, but I had a bevy of things that needed to be addressed and as PD stated, it would have cost more rebuilding it than to just replace it. 1UZ's, if you insist on replacing, are like water and can be found all over the place. I DO caution you tho,,. The LS400 and the SC400, while both DO use the 1UZ engine under the hood, they are totally different creatures. Outside of the engine block itself as well as the heads, EVERYTHING will have to be transferred to the new engine from your old one. When I say this I mean everything,,oil sump, oil pan, brackets, mounts, you name it, it needs to be transferred. I found out the hard way when I had mine replaced with a moter from an SC400, and we had to transfer everything. I DID all work out in the end, but it was a heck of alot more work than I had planned on doing, so if you DO decide to replace you HAVE to make sure it came out of an LS400 for direct drop in. Just sayn',,,,
