Default faux wood trim removal

my LS came with this faux wood trim on the center vents and HVAC controls, and i think it looks terrible. it may have looks great when new but it hasn't stood up well all these years. it has faded and shrunk around the edges.

has anyone had any experience removing it? any tips? i was thinking of just pealing it but if there is a better way (i.e. heat gun) please provide input. thanks in advance fam!

In all honesty, I've never dealt with these before, but I would treat it like removing emblems. Add a little bit of heat and use either fishing line, floss, or a credit card to separate it.

I had the same trim. Like most have said a little heat (hair dryer what I used) will make it peal right off. You probably will have some sticky residue left. It will come off with little effort.

i finally did this and it took a few hours to do but i finally got it off, all mainly by hand!

i did NOT use a heat gun and i simply kept pealing and pealing until it all was gone. the trim was already brittle after all these years so it broke in several pieces. the residue from the double-sided tape was left on the car, so i simply kept rubbing with my fingers until it came off. i used a putty knife to get under the pieces where my fingers couldn't. i wanted to minimize the chance or scratching the trim so less usage of the knife, the better. my fingers hurt for a few days but it's all worth it!

I'll be doing this soon to my car as well. I'm going to be wrapping it in the 3m carbon fiber wrap. It should look way better then busted fake wood.
