Default lack of power

I have a power and white smoke issue. I had a cel and trac problem and it was killing at 1700rpms ,I change my ecu now that problem is gone(no codes). I tried to drive it up the ramp to see about the white smoke and as im trying to go up the ramp the engine making a tapping/poof sound, so I didn't try to go up no more. Im trying to see if anyone have a idea what it can be. thanks in advance.

white smoke typically indicates a blown headgasket, where the coolant is being burned. how many miles do you have?

If the head gaskets were blown I would have oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil right? 83k

please read the stickies.

the white smoke is probably from the PS air control valve, the power loss is likely unrelated.

No codes, I just change the ecu all the lights went off, but I know what caused the ecu to go bad will cause it to bad again.

Update: my car drive live it driving on 4 cylinders. I Change both coils and plugs and wires. Timing good ! The driver side catalytic converter turned red. Clog cats not the problem cause I took it of with no difference. Question about fuel injectors, can the get stuck and dump fuel oit of control? That seen like the problem I search last night and found about 4 or 5 other people with the exact problem, with no fix.

unlikely that its the injectors, sounds ike its an ignition problem for sure... try unplugging each coil to see if it runs differently, sounds like one bank doesnt have spark.

White smoke is not always a HG, could very well be a fuel problem, and a blown HG doesn't always mean you'll get oil and coolant to mix. You checked timing, and that's OK. If you checked spark, and you have them at all cylinders.. (taking your word) And you can identify that the catalyst is getting hot... I would guess that you have a fuel problem, either a sticking injector, faulty ECU, wiring, any number of things... But when you say the cats getting hot, I think you have a problem with putting too much fuel into the cylinder. Try pulling the spark plugs and see if any of them smell like fuel. It could possibly be a cam sensor, but you'd think you be getting a code or seeing some signs of a misfire.

Even though you are getting spark on all 8 your timing can be off, causing them to fire at the wrong time. When my timing jumped a year ago February, (the third time) it had the same symptoms as you do, white smoke, spark on all 8 but feeling like 4 cylinders. Also, a coil could be giving a weak spark. Try unplugging each coil like PD said, see if anything different.
