Default UCF1x Brakes on UCF2x

Searched first. Then came across an old thread from 07 and didn't know if proper forum etiquette was to revive a dead thread or make a new one. Anyway...

I've thought about this type of swap recently in the name of moar front lip. I currently run15mm to clear BBK. I wouldn't mind the poke if it had lip to make up for it, but at 2 inches... nope.

I know brake feel, distance, and etc will be different, but I drive like a grandpa so I'll get used to it. Any thoughts? [Flame suit activate]

buy high disk wheels so you don't have to have crappy brakes.

it doesnt matter how you drive, at some point something's going too end up in front of you that you werent prepared for and you will likely give just about anything at that point for a nice big set of UCF2x front brakes....

also note that pretty much all the guys running super aggressive fitment on the 2LS are doing it with the oem bbk...

I run 93-94 brake setup. With reman calipers and akebono ceramics its better then old 4 pistons with stock pads believe it or not. 4 piston calipers do look better though.

^ i was just gonna say! rey is the only person i know that went with UCF10 brakes on his 20. i assume he did that to fit better wheels, and like he said he feels it's brakes better that way. to the OP, yes you can do it!

There also a black ucf20 post mc with aggressive sized work equips that runs 2 pistons. I got the idea from him a couple years back.

Interesting. The article I came across indicated that a stock '95+ would 60-0 in 125'. With heavier wheels and suspension mods, we'd probably have a range of braking factors to consider. Would be interesting to do some braking distance testing to see how some of these mods impact stopping.

the only reason the early brakes would feel better than the later brakes is if the later brakes were neglected for a long period of time.

there's a reason the GS400, GS300 (1 and 2), SC400, SC300, SC430, GS430, IS300, and Supra (nonturbo) guys all want to upgrade TO 2LS calipers from their stocks.....

Neglected no, worn and old yea. It also takes less fluid to move 2 pistons vs 4.

I know its considered an upgrade for other models, no need to regurgitate that info. Im just sharing my personal experience. For daily driving the difference is minimal IMO.

I'm still pretty new to Lexus and haven't dealt with UCF2x, but brakes on my '94 are very, very good for a stock setup. I would guess they'd work well on a later car, weight difference isn't that much.

Braking distance has alot to do with tires.

That was the only concern I had would be adjusting to the brakes.

I put 94 GS300 brakes on my 96 LS400, stops just fine, even in a panic.

I'm actually planning on putting the entire stock 94 GS300 brakes front and rear and ABS pump on my 96 LS400. I'm putting the 96 LS400 big brakes on my 95 GS300 Aristo swapped car, as it's likely to need the greater heat dissipation of the 4 piston brakes, but for street driving, the smaller GS300 brakes work as well as the stock 4-piston. I can't tell the difference at all, even in medium speed panic stop. I'm sure that if I were to drive the car over 120mph I might notice something, but heck I don't even speed in the ls400, it's just a cruiser.

not true, I'm comparing new GS300 brakes to new LS400 brakes.

Three reasons actually:
1) looks, and most people think bigger is better.
2) better heat dissipation for much higher speed stops because the larger rotors can hold more thermal energy
3) the LS400 calipers are lighter than the cast iron ones.

But they do NOT stop the car quicker. Brakes don't stop your car. The stock, smaller GS300 (the same as the 1994 ucf10 ls400 (as far as I know) brakes still engage the ABS, and in a panic stop, the bigger brakes do not make your car stop quicker on the street. The earlier model GS300/LS400 brakes have plenty enough thermal mass to stop the car for a Panic stop on the street, the smallest, lightest rotor able to do that job will provide the best braking performance. And good tires.

Take a quick read, and seacrh as there is plenty of info on this site and others:
