Default Should I? 91 Ls400

Hi everyone! I sold my LS430 last year and have longed for it ever since. I am looking into getting another LS but something more affordable. I found a one owner, 91 with 119k miles and in great condition. Usual problems, speedo cluster is acting up, LCD on ac not working nd a slight oil leak. Other than that its great. They are asking $2500. Good deal? Timing belt has been done and all the maintenance records are there.

If timing belt and all the maintenance has been kept up, then i don't see why not. There are some really beat up ones trying to sell for 3k.

Check the entire power steering system. PS pump, hi pressure line, return hose, that idle up valve, rack and pinion, ... all those could leak (likely are leaking now) and OEM parts are very expensive. When you fix them, usually you will have to buy several items, they add up very quickly to a large $ amount.

Yeah, I am most worried about the power steering and all that goes into that. Just not sure!

Check the suspension thoroughly too. Some of those oem parts can be expensive as well, especially if you are not doing your own work.

Take your time and look for one in mint condition inside and out. When you find one, pay up for it. Otherwise you end up with a not very good car and still have to put money in year after year.

I suspect you already know this, the instrument cluster does not cost much money to deal with.

I recently paid $2300 for my '91 ls with 180k. The interior and exterior were both in excellent condition with only minor wear (22 years old) but it did need a good amount of repairs. The beauty of these cars is for the most part even if they need tune ups they will still ride out very well. I would say as long as it runs smooth and is in good cosmetic condition $2500 is a good price. Even though the timing belt was changed I would see if the water pump and pulleys were changed as well.

Ok finally drove it today. Drove really smooth. Noticed two things. A slight shake when the car was turning right. Second was a bit of a rumble when in idle or going into reverse. Owner says there is an oil leak at the oil pressure sender and at the timing belt cover but the are minor. The HVAC LCD screen is toast but everything works really great. Overall nice car, I'd say an 8.5 outside and a 9 on the inside. Still not sure...

Maybe for 2k or less? Sounds like another 1LS with the usual problems, but it also has all the major maintenance done and only the things that you've already know and noticed are the ones you've have read about. With that price it's all about how much you like the rest of the car.
