Default UCF10 alarm range?

does anyone know if you can extend the range of the keyless entry on my ucf11?
I have a spare receiver out of another car... is there anything I can do to it?

my key unlocks my celsior when im right at the door but sometimes its a little finicky

My 98 GS4 is too, gotta be right on top of the car to make it work. My 94 Fleetwood was same, the reciever was under the rear package shelf. Add a longer wire for antenna and range increased dramatically.

Mixed bag about longer range, easy to open in the house and leave car unlocked unknowingly when keys are in your pocket.... Or in my Buick's case, pop the trunk!

I find keeping a finger on the blade improves the range slightly,it normally works when 6-8 feet away from the rear of the car.

Probably increases the ground plane which will help a LOT on the radiation efficiency of the antenna on the key fob.

But the RX antenna needs to be found and tuned.

genereally if you put the fob to your chin that always works. Sounds like a joke but it works. mine works usually 20-50ft, if i put it to my chin 30-60

silly question but, have you tried with a new battery in the key? sometime with old batteries the range is low due to low power

there's no external antenna, you would have to crack the unit open and change the internal antenna length, to one that is a whole fraction of the wavelength of the primary frequency of the remote.

The "chin trick" is just adding capacitance to the antenna. Hard to add without some surface area. The face, or hand, adds to it.

I'll try to track it down on my 98 GS4 and see what I find.

I have the tools at work to find it all out....

this is the receiver, and there is an external antennae as you can see that gets plugged in much like the radio one.

what receiver is that, the driver's door ecu or the alarm/wireless receiver ecu that's in the dash?
edit-nvm forgot this is a 1LS.

is there usually an antenna plugged into that jack? (the silver thing on the bottom left of the 2nd picture?) Or is it hidden inside the unit?
