Default Convert to Nakamichi system (gen one LS)

How hard is it to convert from the standard stereo to the Nakamichi stereo option? (for 93 LS)

(I searched, but was not able to find a thread that covered this topic)

What are all the components that need to be changed? (radio unit, power amps, what else?)

Attached are the wiring diagrams for the 1994 LS400 Nakamichi and Pioneer audio systems which should be the same as for the 1993.

Why do you want to do this? Nakamichi went bankrupt about the time Toyota went with Mark Levinson. Nak repair parts supplies are exhausted and the repair shop I've used no longer can repair them. The Nak in my 00 LS sounds great but the standard Pioneer system has advantages other than just being able to get them repaired - like being able to install aftermarket audio systems with available plug and play conversion harnesses.

Thank you for the reply guys. Here is what I am looking for ...

I bought a 93 LS recently that's in excellent condition. The stereo is the standard system, not the Nakamichi option.

The stereo does not sound very good at all. I would like to do an upgrade.

Any advise for me? What should I upgrade to? (I want it to sound as good as the Nakamichi option LS)

Do I need to change all the speakers? or just the stereo head unit? put in a bigger amp some how?

How much should I expect to spend if a typical car stereo shop did this for me? (in parts and labor)

the nak doesn't sound significantly better, and certainly not enough to warrant a conversion of the magnitude that would be required.

good aftermarket components, subwoofer, and amplifier, and a headunit and you'll be miles beyond a stock ~20 year old stereo.

NO NO

the climate control and the radio are SEPARATE

they unscrew with a few screws..

Just buy a new climate control unit. you do NOT want to put a nak radio in where the pioneer system was. it won't work without retrofitting

you would be wasting money

I just bought a climate control section from a local junkyard out of a 92 ls400 for $25

save yourself the headache. buy it separately.

The nak head unit does not have an internal amp. the nak system is LS400's had each speaker powered with an amp attached to the speaker itself with a line level sent to it from the head unit.

in other words.. if you try and put a Nak head unit into a pioneer outfitted LS400 you will get very little to no sound at all.
