Default mpg record

Tonight i have realized my best highway fuel mileage so far in this car. Traveling back to St. George, i averaged 26 mpg. Up from my prior best of 24, and my average mileage on this route is 20. Definitely an improvement. Also got 15 kicking around town over the break. Hope it keeps it up.

Brett, I'd say that is excellent. Best ilve gotten so far in my '98 LS is around 18 in the city and 27.5 on the road. It all depends how you control that right foot. I notice my car does best when I keep it at 40 in the city and around 60-65 max on hwy. And a steady foot. I seldom use the crusie control.

These are big cars, a lot of weight abd a V8. So numbers like these I think are damn good.

ive been seeing where i get better gas mileage in what speed range and it seems i get the best from 75-80. everyday i drive 50 miles round trip to and from work so i get to test all the time. from 60-65 i get about 20-21mpg, with 75-80 i get about 22-24mpg.

I guess my year could take into account. i have a 99.

Mine is a 92, so I don't have the vvt-i.

The highway speed was an average of 65-70. Only 10-15 miles was on the freeway, the rest was on a regular highway. There were some slight climbs and descents. Overall, I went from a 4700 foot elevation to a 2500 foot elevation. Usually, like I said, I get about 18-20 on this route. On freeway drives, I generally get about 23-24 going 75-85-90.

My normal in town mileage is about 11-13. So to see 14.9 was pretty good. I hope it stays that way, or I'll be looking for an Escort....

My '92 LS400 gives excellent inexplicable fuel economy. 30mpg at 65mph, a solid 25mpg at 75-80mph.
I love this thing.

I drive to Chicago and back frequently and usually average about 28mpg slammed on 19s or stockers. Ultimate road-trip car.

I believe that some vehicles, even the exact same model/year/engine/configuration can sometimes end up getting different mpg's, even given the same driver. There are often variances in machining and stuff during manufacture and production. It's part of the reason some engines can last longer than others. I think that may be some of the reason we see different MPG's. The only difference in configuration between my 92 and my mother's 91 is that her tires are 205's and mine are 215's, but I have seen 28 mpg highway in hers easily. I did have one fill-up calculate to be 32 mpg, and while my dad believes, I think that one was a fluke, I don't believe the tank filled up completely.

So this poses the question, is there anything in the design of our tanks or filler necks that cause them not to fill up all the way? It seems to me like when I fill mine up, it's shutting off early. Sometimes I'll fill up and after squeezing in every drop I can, I'll get in and the needle doesn't quite hit the full mark. Other times it will.

the biggest x-factor in economy is driving habits, that's a pretty well established fact.

I have a 98 LS400 with 128k miles and get 22mpg around town driving (for over two years). I consistently buy fuel from the same Costco and I don't really baby it. Love my Lexus!
