Default exhaust mod.... free!! (damage)

got a free muffler delete today,.... thanks puddle!
driving to work behind a truck at about 50-55 and all of the sudden the truck goes through a huge puddle. I cant slam on the breaks and cause theres a car behind me. So i hit the puddle and almost make it through when the car gets really loud and i hear a grindng noise. luckily it was close to work. so i backed in to take a look at the damage

Holy **** you guys got some hard water out that side of the country. How deep was the puddle, did it have a boat in there? That's alot of damage there, you might as well back it up a few more feet and put 'er up on that lift. Seriously, sorry to see your damage.

Wow. Sorry to see you're out of pocket for lousy roads. Did you happen to report the puddle / sink hole so no one else would suffer from it?

That's crazy. Did it damage anything else? Engine mounts? Floor panel? Rear bumper?

what i think happened was i hit the puddle (1ft-1.5ft deep) and and my mufflers anchored. since there is no actual welds at the joint and its sealed from the pressure of the three pipes joining. it just pull the pressure joint appart. then stood the rear mufflers on the incoming end, shoving the right one into the bumper. i looked underneath and nothing wasb damaged, the heat shields were dented but that was Prettyman much it(besides the bumper). new piping will definitely be neaded verry soon. i hate being this loud!

Are you lowered? And did your exhaust hang down below the car? I'm still a little fuzzy on how it managed to catch the road.

I know the guys who run slammed cars often find ways to tuck the exhaust out of harm's way...

yea car was slammed and exhaust was tucked as much as i could get them. I think the front of the cans caught the water and it just stopped them right there.

no nothing solid, just hit deep water really fast. Really opened my eyes to puddles as well. I love driving through puddles and seeing it spray over my car. Not any more. I didnt even try to hit this puddle, had i seen itin time. i would have stopped or changed lanes.

At first I thought it said spray over my cat. meow
Your front mufflers have some marks on the front bottom, did you hit them in the past? That might have loosened the Y pipe to where it was just held on by a thread? You mentioned no weld spots there but did you at least have a clamp on it?

it still had the factory clamp on it so my assumption is that there was will a good amount of metal in the pressure joint. Your seeing the top of the muffler in the pic and all that damage is from the puddle. The bottom of them is scraped pretty good, not to the point of thinning the metal. Id say more or less paint transfer from speed bumps.
